At New Hampshire Medical and Surgical Weight Loss Center, bariatric surgery has a proven track record of improving the health and quality of life for people for whom dieting and other weight loss efforts have failed.  Hundreds of people have benefited from our comprehensive, multi-disciplinary weight loss surgery program.

Bariatric surgery, by gastric bypass, gastric sleeve or Lap-Band, promotes weight loss by restricting food intake. It can improve the health and quality of life for people who are severely obese and cannot lose weight by traditional means. It is important to learn all the facts about Bariatric surgery.

Portsmouth Regional Hospital and Parkland Medical Center have joined forces to offer patients throughout New Hampshire and the region the latest, most effective surgical weight loss options. The surgeries are done at Portsmouth Regional Hospital by a team consisting of specially trained advanced laparoscopic surgeons: John P. Gens, MD, FACS, Kevin G. Looser, MD, FACS, and Cynthia Paciulli, MD, FACS, dieticians, physical therapists, and behavioral health experts, as well as representatives from other medical specialties.

Bariatric Surgery Program Accreditation

Portsmouth Regional Hospital has been designated as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC).

This designation indicates that this program has the required personnel, equipment, pathways and training to accommodate the specific needs of the bariatric patient.  Designated bariatric surgery centers provide not only the hospital resources necessary for optimal care of morbidly obese patients, but also the support and resources that are necessary to address the entire spectrum of care and needs of the bariatric patients, from the pre-hospital phase through the postoperative care and treatment process.

To receive this designation, the hospital facilities are inspected by a member of the Surgical Review Corporation to assure that the facility meets or exceeds requirements set forth by the ASMBS.

The main number to the program is 603-334-2006.
