About the Center for Rehabilitation and Wellness
Located down the street from Portsmouth Regional Hospital, our 17,000-square-foot facility gives you and your family convenient access to comprehensive therapies in an outpatient setting.
Adult rehabilitation and wellness services
If you've experienced an illness, injury or corrective procedure, our therapists will guide you through occupational, physical or speech therapy tailored to your health needs. Through recurring outpatient physical rehabilitation sessions, we work to improve your comfort, strength, movement skills, cognitive abilities or independence.
Our team focuses their rehabilitative efforts on a wide range of conditions for adults, including:
- Balance disorders, including vertigo
- Brain injuries, including concussion
- Cancer
- Constipation
- Heart attack
- Heart failure
- Incontinence
- Joint pain and injuries
- Lung disease
- Lymphedema
- Obesity
- Osteoporosis
- Postoperative diagnosis
- Spinal cord injuries
- Stroke
Depending on your condition, your program may include a balance and dizziness assessment, foot and ankle assessment or pre-driving assessment, as well as cancer care therapies, trigger point dry needling or warm-water aquatic therapy.
Our adult cardiac rehabilitation program
If you have experienced a heart attack or cardiovascular surgery, our cardiac rehabilitation program may be right for you. Our program is designed to help decrease the risk of a future cardiac event, as well as improve your mental health and knowledge about heart disease.
Prior to taking part in group exercise classes, you will undergo an evaluation with one of our registered nurses (RNs). Once you've been approved to participate, you can expect to:
- Be educated weekly on various topics, such as aerobic exercise and strength training, nutrition, stress management and medications
- Complete 36 classes over 12 weeks, which can vary based on your insurance coverage and individual needs
- Have your vitals continuously monitored during exercise
Our adult pulmonary rehabilitation program
This specialized program we offer provides essential support if you have asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension or another long-term lung condition.
As part of our program, you can expect to:
- Complete 24 classes, which can vary based on your insurance coverage and individual needs
- Learn more about breathing exercises, relaxation and mindfulness techniques, environmental irritants, nutrition and medications
- Partake in a personalized exercise plan, which includes monitoring of your oxygen saturation levels

Pediatric rehabilitation and wellness services
At our rehabilitation and wellness center, we are committed to prioritizing your child's physical and mental health. Our pediatric occupational, physical and speech therapists work closely with your child's care providers to help them develop as much as possible.
Through our dedicated pediatric rehabilitation program, we treat a wide range of conditions affecting children, including:
- ADHD
- Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
- Brain injuries
- Coordination development disorders
- Early language delays
- Feeding and swallowing disorders

- Articulation and language therapy
- Bowen therapy
- Hands-on motor speech therapy
