Comprehensive breast cancer care
We work to provide the highest possible level of support for breast cancer through early detection, treatment options and physical rehabilitation services.
About our breast cancer program
Our hospital is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for mammograms, breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and stereotactic breast biopsies. This recognition highlights our high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, facility control procedures and quality assurance programs.
Through our program, we offer a broad range of services, including:
- Access to clinical trials
- Cancer support groups
- Educational materials
- Genetic testing and counseling
- Lymphedema care
- Nurse navigation for breast imaging and breast cancer
- Physical rehabilitation programs
- Survivorship care plan and treatment summary
Breast cancers we treat
We provide treatment for two of the most common types of breast cancer, including:
- Ductal carcinoma - Tumors form in the cells of the milk ducts
- Lobular carcinoma - Tumors form in the milk-producing glands, or lobules
Diagnosing breast cancer
To detect breast cancer, we typically use a digital mammogram or breast biopsy. These diagnostic methods may lead to quicker, more detailed results than alternative options.
We can perform a biopsy to examine the breast tissue and determine the specific type of breast cancer you have. A breast biopsy can also help your physician assess your condition and develop a personalized treatment plan. Our staff will contact you about our findings as soon as possible, as well as explain and schedule any further tests you may need.
Please send us an email to request your breast imaging records.
Screening for breast cancer
Undergoing a mammogram is one of the most proactive steps you can take in the early detection of breast cancer.
We offer a full range of breast cancer medical screenings, including:
- 3D mammogram
- Breast density and risk assessment
- Breast MRI
- Standard and whole breast ultrasound
As part of our breast screening program, we work together to identify if you should be considered high risk for breast cancer. If they determine that you are, supplemental screenings may be necessary.
For assistance scheduling your screening, please call (603) 433-5191.
Treatment for breast cancer
We offer you a full spectrum of breast cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, surgery and breast reconstruction.
If you need surgery for breast cancer, one of our breast surgeons will help you decide between a lumpectomy or a mastectomy. A lumpectomy is done with the goal of breast conservation. During this procedure, our surgeon works to remove the tumor and hide the scar. A mastectomy can be completed with either a skin or nipple sparing (where you keep your own nipple) approach. If desired, breast reconstruction surgery can be performed at the same time by collaborating with our plastic surgeons.
Your own nurse navigator
Throughout treatment, you will have a breast cancer nurse navigator by your side. They will work closely with your care team to help you understand all of your options and receive the care, education and support you need. Your nurse navigator will also coordinate appointments with your care team and guide you through any further testing or high-risk counseling.
For your convenience, we can help you find a breast surgeon. You can also access more information about our cancer diagnostics, treatments and additional services by calling (603) 433-4969.
